NOTICE OF RACE
2008 – 1ST ANNUAL DIVA DAY SAILING EVENT FOR WOMEN
September 20th , 2008
WESTERN CAROLINA SAILING CLUB, ANDERSON, SOUTH CAROLINA
Rules
This race will follow standard PHRF racing rules as governed by US Sailing. There must be a woman at the helm from the starting sequence through the race until crossing the finish line. The crew can consist of men, women and children.
Registration
Registration Cost: $20.00
CLINIC: For female skippers / female crew only; the clinic will run from 9:00am – 11:00am on 8/20/08. This clinic will cover basic racing rules / starting sequence and flags / Q & A session and basic helming questions for racers. Registration is required by emailing Johanna Curtiss at jkcurtiss@bellsouth.net or by calling 864.320.3089.
RACE: Pre registration required for all boats entering in the race by visiting our website at www.wcsc-sailing.org . If you do not have internet service available, please contact Johanna Curtiss by phone at 864.320.3089.
DINNER: An awards dinner will be held at the clubhouse beginning at 6:00pm (following the race); RSVP is required NO LATER THAN Thursday 8/18/08 so as to ensure that we order the proper amount of food. $7.00 donation requested per person (except for the Diva at the helm); children are free. T-SHIRTS: T-Shirts are available for purchase at this event. The price will be $5.00 (XXL $7.00)
Participation
All boats welcomed and participation requires that a female be at the helm of the boat from the beginning of the starting sequence for the race, throughout the duration until they have completed by crossing the finish line. The crew can consist of men, women and children.
Schedule of Events
9:00am – 11:00am EST - Sailing Clinic for women only.
This is an opportunity for women to ask questions and learn about some basics with respect to racing and driving in a race.
11:00am – 12:30pm – Fee’s and sign in done at the clubhouse entrance
12:00pm – 1:00pm – Lunch on the porch of the clubhouse for all participants
1:00pm – Skippers meeting on the porch at the clubhouse
3:00pm – Race begins
One race will be run for this event with a very generous course and therefore may include multiple times around the course.
There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize awarded for this race. All proceeds beyond the necessary to cover the costs for this event will be donated to the WCSC Junior Sailing Program
