10th Annual WCSC Parade of Lights 2024 Boat Parade
The 2024 10th Annual WCSC Parade of Lights was held on December 6th and 7th for the benefit of and the Good Neighbor Cupboard food pantry. This year's event was one of our most beautiful ever with a total of 23 different boats over the 2 nights. Coming mostly from WCSC and Portman Marina, the boats were not only well lit up on the water for all to see, but they generously donated to the campaign and brought food to support the Good Neighbor Cupboard food bank. This was probably one of our best years for the benefit of these two charities. Although it was cold, especially on Friday night, the weather was perfect for the parade and spectators.
Thank you to all those that participated by viewing the parade from Green Pond Landing and/or that donated a new unwrapped toy or brought can goods for the Good Neighbor Cupboard.
A big thank you to the following WCSC volunteers for their support of this event:
- Ronnie Ashmore for contacting news media outlets to help promote the event.
- Renee Tollison, a non-member volunteer, for taking pictures over 500 pictures on Friday and Saturday night.
- Bruce Ehlert and Marvin Brinn for volunteering to drive and man the Whaler as a safety boat on both Friday and Saturday night.
- Ron Sanga for leading the parade both nights, helping folks get boats ready, helping with the collection and distribution of the food and toys.
- John and Terry Pilch for manning the Toys for Tots and food collection station at Green Pond Landing on Friday night.
- Paul Jordan and Missy Goodwin for manning the Toys for Tots and food collection station at Green Pond Landing on Saturday night.
- Steve Brown for ordering pizza and keeping the fire going in the clubhouse until all the sailboats returned to the clubhouse after the parade on Friday night.
A special thanks to Max Shaffer and all the other power boats from Dock 6 at Portman Marina. They brought at least 11 boats, but most importantly they loaded us up with Toys and can goods on Sunday morning after the parade.

We hope that many more WCSC members will come out next year to participate. It is always a lot of fun to Light’em Up!, especially for the benefit of and the Good Neighbor Cupboard food pantry.
Thank you again to all that helped and participated.
We look forward to seeing everyone in the New Year.
