Hospice Regatta - $130k?, no sweat

We Did It!

What an incredible weekend for the 2024 Hospice Regatta. We had 56 boats register from as far away as Maryland and Florida, we hosted the Flying Scot District Championships….AND we raised $132,332. WOW! That number will grow as we will have donations trickle in for the next several weeks. I would not be surprised if we hit $133k or $134k by November 1st. Hard to believe.

When we made the goal of $130,000, Ronnie and I were hopeful, but wondering if we would be able to accomplish that number.  That gut feel was really strong last week as the numbers were low. The team was thinking that $100k was going to be a stretch and $130k was out of the question. A late surge of Sailing for others donations, an incredible raffle (we set a record of tickets sold) and a couple of foundation donations pushed us over the top.

Keep in mind we actually really raised over $146,000. That’s the gross number as we had about $15k of expenses this year.

A lot of appreciation to go around. Many members and some non-members do an incredible job and work their butts off to make this happen. I am sure I will miss someone, but names that immediately come to mind that go well above the call of duty are: Charlie and Sandra Lord, Anna Kay Lord, Pete Skrocki, Jeremy and Tweetie Marsh, Terhune Sudderth, Teresa and Sierra Ashmore, Ron Sanga, Dacia and Keith Schrecengost, Maria Bolan, Dennis and Lisa Baker, Jim Snowden, Bruce Busbey, Ashla Shingler, Kimberly Spears...and this does not include the 20+ others that helped with Race Committee or helped us in whatever we needed help with. As they say, ‘It takes a village…’, and we have a great village.

WCSC longtime member Jeff Kaisner won the drawing for the Golf Cart. Congrats Jeff!

The fleet racing winners were Chuck Ballew, Tim Hochuli, Cheryl Costin, Evan Scott and Dave Rink who also won the overall event Championship. John Kreidler won the Flying Scot District Champs.
