Recap-Around Andersonville Island Alone (or not) race

This year’s event could have been called Around Andersonville Island (or not) 2016. Even with ten boats registered by Thursday, most were concerned with the weather forecast. It was going to be windless. Several forecast sites predicted 3 mph at start time, then diminishing during the race. And it was going to be hot-95 with a heat index near 100.

Pickens County STEM program visits WCSC

Over 1000 second grade students from every elementary school in Pickens County School District launched their 2016 Sailboat Regatta with a visit to the Western Carolina Sailing Club last week!

The Sailboat Regatta is a part of the district's STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) Curriculum. Students learn the basic principles that make sailboats work, such as thrust and drag. Then they build their own model sailboats to race at their schools.

Thank you to the many WCSC members who volunteered for the three day event to show students how much fun STEM learning and sailing can be!  Special thanks to Dan Marett, Tim Crane, Johanna Curtiss, Terhune Sudderth, Bryon Hicks, Patrick Hopp and Ronnie Ashmore for making this program a success!  Check out the photos at the STEM Sailboat Regatta Facebook album
