The 2021 Diva Regatta took place on May 1st and was sponsored by the WCSC Women on the Water Committee. This year’s regatta featured a fun-maximizing distance course with a pursuit start. There were twenty boats registered, which made for great, friendly competition. Congratulations to Nerissa and Elizabeth Griffin, who placed first in the Diva at helm class, followed by Cecilia and Joann Barnard on “Woof” and Leslie Martin taking third on “Bottomline”. Allison Fontenot and McCall Ginsberg placed first for the “All Diva” class on Chubasco. For full results, click 2021 Diva Regatta Results.
The captains and crew with “Best Diva Spirit” were Watermoon and PB&J---pink hair, tutus, and fun hats were all the rage. Team shirts were also on point, with Babe and Da Merit’s shirts bringing lots of smiles, and Sea Reaper’s original Devo spin on things giving a cool retro vibe. Dawn Treader was also recognized for her lovely Diva island-style decorations.
After a day of racing, fueled with Jersey Mike’s subs, we headed up to the clubhouse for an opportunity to dunk our Commodore and other brave club members, who were willing to brave the chilly dunk tank in order to raise funds for a great cause, followed by an outdoor dinner and a new Diva tradition, a Tipsy Cakewalk fundraiser led by Sandi Price. The evening concluded with recognitions and awards. Congratulations to club member Lisa Tuggle who won the golf cart raffle and to Debbie Wilson who won the raffle for the Ryobi electric mower!
Because of the generosity of our club members, their families and friends, and the sponsors of the Diva Regatta, we exceeded our fundraising goal for this year, raising over $30,000 for Safe Harbor, a nonprofit organization that provides a continuum of services to survivors of domestic violence and their children. I am proud to be a member of a club that supports women on and off of the water.
