It would appear that there may be a threat to the galaxy, well, at least the Frostbite fleet. The Death Star, now owned by Jowell Thome, has become fully operational, and has laid waste to the Jan 9th fleet of Frostbite competitors. Jowell and junior crew led the next closest competitor by nearly three minutes at the end of the 3.2 mile race, despite being given an incorrect delay time at the skipper’s meeting. (Jowell should have been allowed to start 3 minutes and 30 seconds sooner). Apologies from the spreadsheet guy, he will be severely dealt with)

Frostbite #2 was quite the contrast with Frostbite #1. Saturday’s race was held under a clear sky, with breeze ranging from about none to about 5 more than none. There were great expanses of ‘slick’ moving across the race course. With the breeze so light, the temperature of low 40’s did not seem uncomfortable.

Seven seems to be the magic number for Frostbite participation this season; seven entrants last week and seven again for #2. While the two Cape Dory 33’s were absent Saturday, the event picked up a J24, Tony Bolan and recently returned from overseas deployment Alex Bolan, and a Thistle, helmed by Kip Smith. The skipper’s meeting started promptly at 11:00, the course to sail was debated, and the “Water Quality” buoy was chosen as the rounding mark (in lieu of the missing buoy S15). Although the start signals could not be clearly discerned from the spectator viewing area on the point, it seemed that maybe the J24 and the Telstar 28 Tri (the former representative of the Dark Side) may have ventured too far downwind of the starting area to regain the start line in time for their start. The race results were emailed to the author, without any commentary.

The next Frostbite race is scheduled for 16 Jan. The current NWS forecast is for a high temp of 46 with west wind at 14-26 mph. See you then (skipper’s meeting, at least).
