NEW *** Club Race Management Class *** – January 18th, 2025 at WCSC (Now required for Fairshare hours for PRO Duty)
NOTE: Registration is required to attend. You can register here.
WCSC will be hosting a Race Management Course on Saturday January 18th. The class will start at 9:00am sharp and will be approximately 4 to 6 hours. Coffee and donuts will be served before/during class, a pizza lunch, ice cold beer and soft drinks after the class. There is no charge for the class.
Seating will be limited to 30 persons, so sign up early.
The class will be a version of the US Sailing Race Officer training class but with a slant towards Race Management at WCSC on Lake Hartwell. The course will teach all the basics and information necessary to run a race.
Some background. The Club has historically given 5 hours of fair share to members who are PRO’s for their RC duty. Further, PRO’s who have taken and passed the US Sailing Race Management Class were given 10 hours of fair share for their PRO duty. This is changing in 2025.
- Starting 2025, 5 Fairshare hours will be awarded to PRO’s who have completed and passed the WCSC Race Management class
- A passing grade is 70% or greater of correct answers on the test
- You will need to renew your WCSC Race Management certification every 4 years or less
- Sailing Committee will keep track of all Club PRO’s who have passed the class
- You will have 2 years (2025 and 2026) to be initially certified as a WCSC PRO
- If you decide to be certified or are already a certified US Sailing Management PRO, provide a copy of your certificate to the Sailing Committee Chair so you will receive 10 hours of fair share for being a PRO for club race or event. This must be renewed every 4 years with US Sailing
- Members who take the class but don’t want to be a PRO will receive 2 hours of Fairshare for taking the class and passing the end of class test
This course is for you if:
- You are a PRO for WCSC club races and are not quite sure how to handle shortening courses, setting a straight start line, how to handle mistakes in the race start, etc.
- You are a racer and have been assigned to PRO a club race
- You are a new member and have an interest in learning more about how to run a race
- You are a sailor who is interested in racing, but want to know about how races are run, what the flags mean and other general race management information
Registration is required and limited to 30 persons. You can register here.
Note that if we hit the maximum registrations of 30, preference for seating will be given to 2025 assigned PRO’s.
