The Commodore’s Cup
On Jan. 1, WCSC held the first of 6 scheduled races of the 2025 Frostbite Series. Thirteen boats registered for the event, eleven made it to the starting line, and seven completed the race before the mandated 4:30 end of the race.
Weather conditions were reasonable, with sunny skies (how many skies were there?), coolish temperatures of about 45 to 55, and adequate (maybe adequate +) wins of 12 to 20.
The pursuit start commenced pretty much on time at noon, with boats starting according to their performance rating, slower boats first and faster boats following. The racecourse chosen was to buoy 18 in the Big Water area of the lake, a round-trip distance of about 13 miles. The race fleet consisted of 11 boats, the smallest a 13’ Sunfish and the largest a 33’ Morgan Out Island. (As Eddie Murphy said, “Which Line you wanna be in?)
The racers returned to the Clubhouse midafternoon to a roaring fireplace and 2 pots of hot soup (THANKS Allison), the usual post-race trash talk debriefing, and plans to race the remaining 2025 Frostbite races
