Western Carolina Sailing Club
Why Sunfish? Isn’t that a kids’ boat? Sunfish are easy for one person to rig and they only have one sail so you can become independent quickly. And the club has a bunch of them so it’s easy to go sailing on your own or gather with friends.
And if you are nervous about capsizing and righting the boat again, we’ve got you covered. It's not that hard. You just need the right conditions for learning.
LEVEL OF PHYSICALITY NEEDED: *You don't have to be particularly athletic, but you do need to be able to get on and off the boat from the dock.
*You will change sides while you sail so you will need to be able to move under the boom. This could be difficult with neck or back problems.
*For the capsize drill you will need to feel comfortable being in the water, and you will need to be able to flop yourself back into the boat. This could be difficult with shoulder problems.
WHAT TO BRING: * A PFD (life jacket) to be worn at all times while on the boat * Lunch * A water bottle to take on the boat. * Sailing clothes (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and so on...)
